Screens of the Future is a series of visionary prototypes by digital art and design studio Universal Everything, based on the emerging technologies of flexible displays, shape-shifting materials and context-aware functionality. These moving image artworks highlight humanity’s increasingly integrated relationship with technology, serving as product demos of our near future.

Screens of the Future is a series of visionary prototypes by digital art and design studio Universal Everything, based on the emerging technologies of flexible displays, shape-shifting materials and context-aware functionality. These moving image artworks highlight humanity’s increasingly integrated relationship with technology, serving as product demos of our near future. The series of over twenty short videos imagines a future where intelligent, kinetic displays are built into architecture, fashion and even nature, becoming part of the landscape and the home in new ways.

Descriptions

Facade type and geometry (structure) : Screens of the Future is a series of animated HD films. The films depict various facades and materials, including nature (plants, fish), household items (a fan, a plate), entertainment devices (fully immersive screens, phones, record players), fashion (jewellery, items of clothing), and architecture and infrastructure (buildings, navigation systems).

Resolution and transmitting behaviour : 1920 x 1080 HD

Description of showreel : Each video-prototype features a different object or item that displays data or content relevant to its context. For instance a plate communicates nutritional information about the food items that are placed on it, a traditional pillar is given a makeover with a built-in display, leaves can become capable of visually indicating the plant's internal status, and a building reshapes according to need.
